Creative Writing Ideas: Developing Your Character Further

Creative Writing Ideas: Day 5 of the Daily Writing Challenge

Holla! Some of you may be thinking that I misspelled, "Hola", the Spanish equivalent of the English, "Hello". But I did not, I wrote - Holla, as in the lyrics from one of Missy Elliot's songs, "Hollllllllaaaaa, ain't no stopin' me. Copy written, so don't copy me." You know you love my vernacular. ;)

Back to Creative Writing, the narrative prompt for Day 5 is up and running, it's running like crazy and preparing for a marathon, a writing marathon, a daily writing marathon - and you're going to join. :)

Yesterday we explored character creation in the simplest form: name, age, height, eye color, etc. Today we are exploring our character's external world, their family situation. Do they have any siblings, what is their relationship like with their father? Is the mother alive? If so, what is her job. Is your character married? What is your character's sex life like? Active? Frustrated? Non-existant? These are some of the questions we're going to explore.

You're going to have 10 minutes, that is right TEN minutes only to complete this writing exercise. The point is for you to write fluidly and thoughtlessly, so you can load yourself up with ammunition to defeat the dreaded Writer's Block when he comes knocking on your imagination.

Visit Creative Writing Ideas to get started and grooving with your character, character development that is. ;)
